Structural Remedial Works, Refurbishment, Alterations and Building Enhancements

Client: Bramley Baths and Community Limited

CPA were appointed to provide structural engineering design services on the only remaining Edwardian Bath House in Leeds which is also Grade II listed. First opening in 1904, the masonry structure requires structural intervention to stabilise part of its stonework façade.

CPA derived a façade strengthening steel trussed solution that will sympathetically blend in with the existing structure. These strengthening works will also be designed to cater for the proposed roof glazing enhancements and introduction of roof mounted PV’s as part of the client’s sustainability improvement plans.

CPA also coordinated the procurement of a 3D point cloud survey and follow on temporary works as part of the retained façade works which were required as part of the overall project.

Client: James Hall & Co Limited

CPA were appointed by client, James Hall & Co Limited, to provide full civil and structural engineering design services for the development of a new build retail store and associated petrol filing station (PFS).

The site was a former PFS facility that has remained dormant for some time. Buried fuel tanks remained and required removal and remediation as part of the proposed development. CPA specified and coordinated the site investigation works following background reviews which identified the presence of a backfilled former clay quarry on the site. The soil conditions dictated a fully piled sub structure was required including the PFS forecourt canopy structure.

Alternative steel frame options were considered to develop arrangements that achieved the client’s strict column positions as well as internal clearance heights which were also restricted by local planning requirements. Site drainage and levels were also carefully and thoroughly developed and detailed to suit the existing shallow infrastructure connection points and the client’s specific car park and PFS forecourt requirements.

CPA were engaged by Wm Morrison Supermarkets Limited to support the design stage development of a new build supermarket on a brownfield former brewery site in Blackburn.

Early design proposals were prepared by the third-party Engineer acting for the site developer. CPA’s role included reviewing all initial civil and structural proposals, background report scope and specification reviews as well as output recommendations.

This facilitated design efficiencies in the Flood Risk Assessment, drainage levels, retaining wall configuration and the building foundation solutions all leading to a cost-effective design for the ultimate client. CPA’s role continued throughout the planning application preparation stage of the development where our contribution included further reviewing of planning reports and proposals to assist the client in achieving
a regulatory approval application.
